The role Health professionals play in families who are going through a traumatic pregnancy is crucial to that families ongoing journey. It is so important for Health Professionals to communicate with families in a respectful, empathetic way.
If a women and her family have been delivered care that is supported, empathetic and has been given information, that supports them to make an informed decision about their care, will have a ‘positive care’ experience regardless of the outcome of their pregnancy.
All to often we hear women stories of how they were told that this is what you should do by a health professional. They were not given all the options that were possible for their situation, and therefore were not able to make an informed decision. This then has an everlasting effect on a women, especially for those women who are forced into a decision that is not right for them.
